THE CONGRESS GOVERNMENT POLICIES TO BENEFIT MINORITIES:

The Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh has introduced several measures for development and upliftment of less fortunate communities of our state including the minorities.

Quota Ordinance for Muslims

One of the promises kept by the Congress Government was to promulgate the ordinance of 4% reservation for the Muslim Minority in the State. This ordinance is set to benefit the following students apart from creating umpteen jobs:

• 4000 - Students in Engineering
• .300 - Students in Medicine
• .200 - Students in Pharmacy
• .200 - Students in MBA
• .200 - Students in MCA
• 1000 - Students in Graduate and Post Graduate Studies

Scholaships Grants for Muslims, other Minorities and BCs

In the Budget 2008-09, the Congress Government has decided to extend scholarships to Minority and BC Students at par with those provided for SC & ST Students. Quote from A.P Finance Minister's speech...

" Government has already provided scholarships to all eligible students belonging to SCs and STs . This year, the same facility is extended to the students belonging to Backward Classes and Minorities. It is also decided to reimburse the tuition fee for the students of Backward Classes and Minorities on par with the students belonging to SCs and STs. In order to meet this increased expenditure on Scholarships and tuition fee, the budget allocation for BCs and Minorities, have been increased from Rs.287 crores during 2007-08 to Rs.423 crores in Budget Estimate 2008-09 for scholarships and from Rs.50 crores during 2007-08 to Rs.185 crores in 2008-09 for Tuition fee reimbursement"
